In the past few years, The Habitats Trust has commissioned a total of 190 films. Told by the locals themselves, these films span across states, species, and habitats. Our work has been awarded the 68th & 70the National Film Awards for the episode on bats & gharial in On The Brink Season 2 and the Nature inFocus award for the Malabar Pit Viper episode from Wild You Were Sleeping, a win for lesser-known species indeed.
‘On The Brink’ explores wildlife and natural habitats rarely seen on Indian television. From the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard in the Thar, to the unique Purple Frog of the Western Ghats, join grassroots conservationists as they unravel mysteries of the natural world and help us understand why species that once lived in large populations, are now literally ‘On The Brink’.
‘Wild You Were Sleeping’ is a call to witness some of India’s most fascinating wild species that live among us but are rarely in the spotlight. This six-episode docuseries offers an unprecedented portrait of these animals and how they survive in diverse habitats across the country.
Wild You Were Sleeping is presented by The Habitats Trust and was co-produced by The Habitats Trust and Trippintoe Media.
The 'Species & Habitats Awareness Programme', in partnership with the Marathi media house MahaMTB, is a series of 100 short films that focuses on the habitats and species found in Maharashtra, and is made with a focus on the local communities that coexist and thrive with them.
The films span the length and breadth of the state, and include habitats which many don’t know about, and some which everyone does — from the Western Ghats, to the Konkan coast, Nashik’s hills to Mumbai’s creeks — dive in.
As we zoom in towards the hyper local, we have made these films in the language of the locals, with English subtitles.
‘Stories from the Ground: Northeast India’ is a new film series by The Habitats Trust and Dusty Foot Productions. The series travels through the north-eastern states collecting 50 shorts shot by local filmmakers to bring stories rooted in the culture, traditions, and biodiversity of the region. Watch all the films here or on The Habitats Trust YouTube channel.
